Last week I had a virtual catch-up with my good friend and fellow entrepreneur Steph Snade, who is skilled at developing female leaders to grow in confidence, scale their businesses and become influential CEO’s. Steph is in my circle, in other words, we regularly connect, share and hold each other accountable with specific tasks. My question for you is who is in your circle, as this month I would like to share some of the benefits of having the right people in your ‘circle’.
One of the reasons Steph is in my circle is that we have similar values and appreciate the power of collaboration over competition. Yet, we are also distinctly different in our business niche, goals and professional experiences, and that is a bonus. The different perspectives can create opportunities for new learning and development.
Another key benefit of having the right people in your circle is accountability. As professionals many of us are extremely capable of completing urgent tasks and meeting deadlines. Yet, there are also times that some of the important but less urgent tasks, in the context of the Eisenhower model, often get moved back, rescheduled or completely forgotten. These are the very tasks you can be held accountable for after sharing them with your circle. There is so much value from having someone check in and remind you of what you said you were going to do, and also when you were going to do it.
Additionally, having inspirational individuals in your circle can be deeply encouraging. Whether you work as an employee, run a business or spend your time taking care of your family and home life can be challenging. Really challenging! There may be thoughts of giving up, doubting your abilities or staying stuck in a rut, but spending time with those in your circle are going to uplift, motivate and remind you what matters most. Encouragement can never be underestimated, we all need it from time and time and we can also give it to others.
There are so many more benefits of having the right people in your circle including referrals, signposting, collaboration and a space for reflection and challenge. The most important aspect is creating and cultivating a professional circle, which can take intentionality. If you already have a circle do not forget to celebrate and remain consistent with them. You are deserving of having genuine and supportive people in your life. Have a great month ahead.
